20 Reasons to be Excited for Syracuse Football - #17

As we move closer to the 2011 Syracuse football season, Lots of Pulp will be counting down the top 20 reasons to be excited for the new year.

Last season was great for SU football. The Orange jumped from the basement of the Big East to bowl team and a relevant contender in the conference.

Even Brian Bennett from the ESPN.com Big East Blog started believing in Marrone and his bunch. It seemed like SU would lose its status as the ultimate underdog, and even become a favorite in the conference. Oh noes!

Thankfully, someone is here to make sure that doesn't happen.

#17 - ANDREA ADELSON

Andrea Adelson
Friend or foe?
If you don't know who Andrea Adelson is, you probably will soon. Around these parts, she's best known for a couple of major mishaps related to her opinion of Syracuse football. Remember when she ranked Syracuse 104th in the nation heading into 2010? How about when she left the 5-2 (and recent winners at WVU) Orange out of her bowl projections last October?

See, Andrea doesn't seem to be a big fan of Syracuse, or, you know, facts.

This could go one of two ways, either of which should be pretty entertaining:

1. Adelson sees the light - She realizes she was wrong for underestimating SU last season and devotes her never-ending love to the Orange on the blog. She overcompensates by giving Syracuse more coverage on ESPN than in the past several years combined. As SU makes its way back into the national consciousness, Adelson is there every step of the way, and everyone is happy. More SU features, more positive coverage, a better platform for recruiting and more love from bowls at the end of the year.

2. Adelson gets pissed - Orange fans are not exactly a forgiving bunch of fans. Think Pat Dye. Hell, for some reason, more SU fans rooted for Jim Calhoun and UConn than Butler because of one Sweet 16 game in 2009. The odds are Adelson has received some hate mail since taking over for Bennett on the blog. She'll probably get even more the first time she makes a mistake involving the Orange. We don't know this woman, or whether she can take the heat. She could turn into the next Doug Gotleib and devote every moment of her life into bringing down Syracuse.

Why is this fun? Because we LOVE to hate. And we love to be underestimated. People from Syracuse are blue-collared underdogs. That's why we love crotchety old Jim Boeheim, who always has a chip on his shoulder. That's why we love Doug Marrone's no-nonsense approach.

You wanna doubt us?!! Well F*#@ you!!!
