20 Reasons to be Excited for Syracuse Football - #10

As we move closer to the 2011 Syracuse football season, Lots of Pulp will be counting down the top 20 reasons to be excited for the new year.

By now we've heard it all....

"Back in my day, the Orangemen were out in Archbold giving their opponents a tail-whipping while we smoked cigars and drank Budweiser from cans. Nowadays the Dome's got our football inside, where we can't smoke, have to put up with imported beer and watch a game being played on a carpet."

Yes, that's the folks rabbling about the 10th reason to be excited about Syracuse Football this year...

#10 – The Outdoor Stadium Debate

In what seems like an almost annual occurrence, we'll hear these rumblings about how Syracuse needs a new outdoor stadium. Well, the football team needs an outdoor stadium about as much as Darryl Gross needs another Blackberry. As in, neither really needs it, at all.

This debate just gives me a reminder of how good us 'Cuse fans have it. Sure, we could have a retractable roof as a compromise. It'd be great so we could enjoy those amazing September and early October afternoons. But in case you haven't noticed, cities and states aren't really slinging around much cash these days.

Therefore, lets take a minute to appreciate our baby, the Carrier Dome.

If the horse can't get through that stuff, how will Antwon Bailey?

But wait, didn't the Minnesota Gophers just build a great outdoor stadium?

Yes, indeed they did.

They even played an NFL game there in sub-zero temperatures! The only good thing to come out of that game was Brett Favre got injured on the rock-hard turf in the first quarter, allowing us to actually hear about other players and things during the rest of the game.

So before you curse the Dome when you come in on a beautiful CNY fall day, just remember what keeps us warm towards those later months.

Ahhh....that's nice
